Everything to know about Karachi Yellow Line BRT project

Karachi is one of the largest and most populous Metropolitan cities in the world with built-up areas comprising about 1,500 KM². These challenges have led to severe traffic congestion, prolonged commuting times, deteriorating air quality, and a high incidence of road accidents. Although initiatives like the Green Line BRT are steps toward improving public transportation, the overall system remains fragmented and inadequate.

To address these concerns comprehensively, the Yellow Line BRT corridor has been designated as a pilot project in Sindh Province. The proposed alignment of the Yellow Line benefits from a wide Right of Way (ROW), making it well-suited for dedicated transit infrastructure.

Route

The Project corridor is approximately 21 km long, starting from Dawood Chowrangi to Numaish via Korangi Road, Shahrah-e-Faisal and Shahrah-e-Quaideen] and is part of the overall Karachi Mass Transit System.

The Yellow Line BRT bus will operate from Dawood Chowrangi/Korangi 8000 Road to Shahrah-e-Quaideen upto Numaish Chowrangi. The corridor will mostly serve the residents of Landhi Korangi and employees working in the Landhi, Korangi and Port Qasim Industrial Areas.

Electric Buses powered with solar energy, providing eco-friendly, efficient transportation will be used in Project to reduce pollution, support global climate action and sustainable development for a greener sustainable Karachi. The project is expected to provide commuting to around 300,000 passengers daily.
