Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has arrived in Pakistan on a two-day official visit, where he received a warm welcome, as reported by national media on Saturday.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, along with a high-level delegation, arrived in Lahore on a two-day official visit, where PML-N President Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz warmly welcomed him.
Extensive preparations were made at Allama Iqbal International Airport for the reception of the Iranian President; the airport was decorated with the flags of Pakistan and Iran, and a red carpet was also laid out to welcome the Iranian President.
After paying homage at the mausoleum of Iqbal, the Iranian President will leave for Islamabad this evening. This is the Iranian President’s first official visit to Pakistan. Meetings of the Iranian President with President Asif Ali Zardari and National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq are scheduled for this evening.
Speaking to the media before departing for the visit to Pakistan, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said the purpose of the visit is to promote trade and economic relations.
The Iranian President said that issues of border security and regional peace will be discussed during the visit to Pakistan. Border markets and connections can open new paths for mutual cooperation. The effort is to increase the volume of bilateral trade to 10 billion dollars.
President Masoud Pezeshkian said that Iran desires active participation in the Pakistan-China One Belt One Road initiative; the project could provide Iran with an opportunity to connect to Europe. Efforts to damage the Islamic unity between Pakistan and Iran will fail.
