India has refused to play the semi-final of the World Championship of Legends against Pakistan, Indian media reported on Wednesday.
The match between the Pakistan Champions and the Indian team was scheduled to take place in Birmingham tomorrow.
Once again politicizing sports, India has declined to take the field against Pakistan in the semi-final of the 2025 World Championship of Legends. The decision reportedly stems from strained bilateral relations and recent political controversy in India surrounding the Asia Cup schedule.
The Indian Champions team, which includes former players such as Yuvraj Singh, Shikhar Dhawan, and Yusuf Pathan, had already boycotted their group-stage match against Pakistan earlier in the tournament.
By refusing to participate in the semi-final as well, India has reaffirmed its rigid stance and its growing distance from the spirit of sportsmanship.
India had qualified for the semi-final by defeating the West Indies. However, by pulling out of this crucial fixture, the Indian side has not only undermined the competitive essence of the tournament but also projected a negative image on the global stage.
Meanwhile, Indian sponsor “EaseMyTrip” has also displayed bias by withdrawing from the semi-final due to Pakistan’s involvement. The company issued a prejudiced statement declaring that it would not be part of any match involving Pakistan.
Analysts have said that India’s repeated politicization of cricket not only violates the global spirit of the game but also hinders the potential for improving diplomatic relations through sports.
