Ten members of a family were swept away when their double-cabin vehicle was caught in a swollen rainwater drain in the Hassanabdal area of Attock on Wednesday.
Rescue officials confirmed that five of the family members were safely rescued, while efforts are ongoing to locate the remaining five, which include four women and a child.
The incident occurred near Jhadi Kas in Hassanabdal Tehsil, where the drain had overflowed due to heavy rainfall. Swift currents carried the vehicle away, triggering a large-scale rescue operation.
Rescue teams, including divers, are actively searching for the missing individuals. The operation is being personally supervised by District Emergency Officer Ali Hussain.
The affected family, residents of Wah Cantt, were en route to their farmhouse in Bhalar Jogi when the tragedy struck.
Two week earlier, a father and his sister died following their car swept away in rainwater in Islamabad. In total hundreds of people died in rain related incidents in recent monsoon downpour.
