Newly released CCTV footage has refuted the claims of Syed Zafar Abbas of JDC Foundation, who had blamed the accident on the motorcyclist.
On Monday, a speeding SUV registered in the name of Syed Zafar Abbas of JDC Foundation hit a motorcycle near Ancholi, seriously injuring two young cousins, Abdul Ahad (18) and Hanif (19). Ahad’s condition is said to be critical.
Although Abbas initially blamed the accident on the motorcyclist — claiming that he was travelling without a headlight — CCTV footage shows that the motorcycle’s light was clearly on. The footage also shows a double-cabin Vigo vehicle was driving on the wrong-way, with two security personnel riding behind it.
The vehicle, bearing registration number LEH-0110, was allegedly being driven by Abbas’ driver, Raib Raza Naqvi. The vehicle attempted to change lanes while taking a bend and hit a motorcycle, throwing one of the riders several meters away. The vehicle fled the scene after the accident. Eyewitnesses recovered its license plate, which had been torn off during the collision.
The injured were initially shifted to a hospital on Shar-e-Faisal, and later shifted to another medical facility for further treatment.
Upon reaching the scene, Abbas and his team allegedly snatched the mobile phones of those present who were recording videos of the aftermath of the accident — raising further questions about the matter.
