Dubai-based airline Emirates has announced the launch of a massive global recruitment drive to recruit 5,000 new cabin crew members from around the world this year.
The airline has confirmed that the new recruitment drive will cover more than 460 cities across six continents, starting with an invitation-only roadshow in Singapore on June 19. Another session in Singapore is also expected on July 19.
In addition to cabin crew, Emirates Airlines is also actively recruiting pilots. The airline plans to hire 1,550 pilots over the next two years, of which more than 550 will be added by the end of 2025 alone. The recruitment drive by Emirates Airlines comes as the company continues to expand its fleet. In November 2024, the airline added its first Airbus A350-900 model to its fleet, the first new model to be added since 2008.
The airline has also invested in the refurbishment of its Airbus A380 aircraft, which now fly to cities such as Bangkok, Perth, and Hong Kong. New flights have also been launched in Asian countries, including Da Nang in Vietnam, Shenzhen in China, and Siem Reap in Cambodia.
Emirates has also placed orders for more aircraft to meet future needs. These aircraft will not only increase capacity but also allow the airline to explore new routes.
The recruitment drive comes as Singapore-based budget airline Jetstar Asia announced it would cease operations on July 31, laying off more than 500 employees, including cabin crew and corporate staff.
Jetstar Asia’s closure will affect 16 routes in Southeast Asia, including flights between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Jakarta, and Manila. Jetstar’s operations in Australia, New Zealand and Japan will not be affected.
Qantas Group will use 13 Jetstar Asia aircraft on domestic flights in Australia and New Zealand to meet local demand.
Meanwhile, the National Trades Union Congress of Singapore confirmed that efforts are underway to provide other opportunities for affected staff in the aviation sector, including Singapore Airlines and its subsidiary Scoot, which are increasing the number of flights to the region.
Emirates Group has posted a record profit of US$6.2 billion this year. Group Chairman Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum attributed the success to growing global demand and effective management.

The airline has announced that it will continue to fly its flagship A380 aircraft for the next decade, reflecting its long-term commitment to luxury air travel.
