The Ministry of Energy’s Petroleum Division has established a technical committee to manage the evaluation and containment efforts concerning a natural gas pocket identified in Karachi’s Korangi Crossing area.
The committee includes members from Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL), Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL), and Pakistan Refinery Limited (PRL). Its objective is to address the situation efficiently and effectively, according to officials.
On March 31, a mysterious blaze erupted in the Korangi Crossing area of Karachi and persisted for six days. Subsequent investigations by TPL Properties confirmed that the fire originated from a natural gas pocket.

Preliminary chemical analysis by PPL suggests the presence of hazardous chemicals in the water emerging from the ditch where the fire continues to burn.
Meanwhile, Geo News reported that authorities are seeking the assistance of an internationally renowned U.S.-based firm to help extinguish the underground blaze.
