The Sindh Home Department has ordered the detention of Baloch Solidarity Committee leader Sammi Din Baloch and four of his associates for 30 days.
The decision has been taken under the 3 MPO under which any person can be detained in view of public order.
A local court in Karachi had ordered Sammidin Baloch’s immediate release while discharging him in the case registered yesterday. After the court’s decision, Sami Din Baloch and his colleagues were waiting to be released, but there was already a heavy police presence outside the court.
“Speaking to the media after his release, Sammi Din Baloch said,” “We got bail from the court, but the police are ready to arrest us again.” “” We are being detained under 3 MPO, which is an illegal and unconstitutional move.
The Baloch Solidarity Committee has been protesting against alleged human rights violations in Balochistan for some time. Many of the group’s activists have already faced arrests and lawsuits.
Earlier too, cases were filed against BYC leaders on charges of disturbing the peace during the protests, but on several occasions the courts declared them innocent and issued orders to release them.
Political and social circles have expressed serious concerns over the decision to re-arrest Sammi Din Baloch. Human rights organizations say that 3MPO is being used to suppress political activists, which is a violation of the fundamental right to freedom of expression.
On the other hand, government sources say that this step has been taken to ensure public peace and order, so that any possible protests or protest activities can be dealt with.
BYC leaders and activists have hinted at legal action against their arrests, while more protests are expected from the organization.
It remains to be seen how the courts will react to the verdict and whether Sammidain Baloch and his associates will be spared.
