Last night a blast occurred near Karachi Airport in which allegedly Chinese nationals were targeted. Soon after this terrorist attack, the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLB) claimed responsibility for it.
As per media reports, at least three foreign nationals died while 17 others sustained injuries in the blast. Sindh Home Minister Zia Ul Hassan Lanjar has said that it was an improvised explosive device (IED) strike.
After the blast, the suicide unit of the Majeed Brigade of BLA took responsibility for the attack and termed it a suicide blast. In a post on social media, Jeeyand Baloch of BLA said that multiple Chinese have been killed along with their security personnel in the attack.
Why is BLB targeting Chinese nationals?
The only reason behind targeting the Chinese nationals in Pakistan by the terrorist group BLA is the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) which China is building with a huge investment in Pakistan.
Under CPEC, the Gwadar Sea Port was also built by China while BLA and some other terrorist groups are opposing it. They claimed that CPEC would turn Baloch people into a small minority on their land and other people from Pakistan and other countries would dominate the demography of the province and as a result, Baloch would be deprived of their natural resources, the claim which the government of Pakistan vehemently rejects.
So, BLA is targeting Chinese nationals, especially those who are in Pakistan to work on different projects related to CPEC, to foil this game-changer project, however despite all challenges work is continuing and the project and its first phase have already been completed.
It should be noted that some rival countries of Pakistan including India also against the CPEC, and supporting BLA and other terrorist organizations who are active against the project.
