The Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) have reached an agreement to form a coalition government at the center, and for this purpose, they have agreed on a power-sharing formula.
The formation of the coalition government was formally announced by PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif and the PPP Chairman in a joint press conference, with leaders from both parties present at the moment.
Who gets what?
During the press conference, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that Shehbaz Sharif would be a joint candidate for Prime Minister, while Asif Ali Zardari would be a joint candidate for the President of Pakistan. Although both leaders did not disclose the distribution of other key posts, media reports, quoting reliable sources, claim that besides the presidency, PPP will also secure the positions of Senate Chairman, Chief Minister of Balochistan, and Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
On the other hand, PML-N will secure the premiership, the governorship of Sindh and Balochistan, and the Speaker of the National Assembly.
According to media reports, the PPP will also be part of the federal cabinet, with the number of ministers and their portfolios to be decided later after consulting with other parties like MQM-P and BAP.
MQM-P will also be a part of the government at the center; however, it will not secure the governor post in Sindh.
