LAHORE: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) allowed incarcerated PTI leader Dr Yasmin Rashid to undergo cancer-related treatment.

Acknowledging the seriousness of her situation, ATC judge Abhar Gul Khan accepted Dr Yasmin Rashid’s request for treatment. The former health minister sought permission from the court to undergo cancer tests,

Recognizing the urgency of her medical needs, the court emphasized that jail authorities should promptly facilitate her transfer to the Services Hospital for the necessary tests.

Her counsel said cancer treatment was not good from Services Hospital and she should be allowed to conduct tests at Shaukat Khanum Hospital. The court allowed the request.

Dr Yasmin Rashid was presented in the court after her five-day judicial remand ended. The court sent her to jail on 14-day judicial remand in the case of Sherpao Bridge speech and arson case.

Dr Yasmin Rashid is currently in jail in connection with the May 9 arson cases, making her health and access to medical care a matter of concern for the court. Yasmin Rashid was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2020 and was undergoing a lengthy treatment.

Earlier this month, an ATC granted police a five-day physical remand of PTI leader Dr Yasmin Rashid and after authorities lodged fresh charges against all suspects involved in the May 9 violence.

ATC Judge Abhar Gul Khan conducted the hearing on the police’s request for fresh physical remand in light of the new charges.

The police informed the court of the new offences that had been added to the FIR registered at the Sarwar police station, which included mutiny, inciting people to riot, and attempting to wage a war against the state.

It urged the court to grant a 30-day physical remand of the PTI Punjab president as an investigation was required based on the new allegations against her.

Subsequently, the ATC granted the police Rashid’s five-day physical remand and directed the investigation officer to join the accused with the investigation in jail.

On August 28, the court granted police a three-day physical remand of Rashid in another case pertaining to attacking and burning Shadman police station during the May 9 riots.

On September 5, a Lahore High Court (LHC) division bench dismissed post-arrest bail petitions of Rashid and others in the Shadman police station case.
