ISLAMABAD: United States Ambassador to Pakistan Donald Blome held a meeting with PML-N Senior Vice President Maryam Nawaz.
The meeting was held at Maryam Nawaz’s residence in Murree. In a statement, the party said they discussed the importance of cooperation in various areas, including trade, the economy, security, peace, and regional stability.
The meeting centered on discussing the significance of the long-standing and historic bilateral ties between the two countries, it added.
Maryam Nawaz conveyed her gratitude to Ambassador Blome for his dedicated efforts on behalf of the United States during the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic and the devastating floods that occurred last year.
Last month, the foreign office said that political leaders meeting foreign envoys was a “routine practice” amid reports that the PTI leaders met with diplomats seeking relief for party chairman Imran Khan.
There were reports that PTI leaders Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Barrister Ali Zafar and Rauf Hasan had a meeting with seven foreign envoys including US ambassador Donald Blome at the residence of Australian High Commissioner Neil Hawkins in Diplomatic Enclave on August 18.
US envoy Blome met with Chief Election Commissioner Sikander Sultan Raja on August 24 and reaffirmed US support for free and fair elections in accordance with Pakistan’s laws and constitution.
“Choosing Pakistan’s future leaders is a decision for the Pakistani people to make, and the United States remains committed to working to enhance the US-Pakistan relationship with whomever the Pakistani people choose,” the ambassador said.
