ISLAMABAD: The government has decided to hold a national-level Interfaith Harmony Conference next week after incidents of violence.
The decision was made during a federal cabinet meeting chaired by caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar.
The cabinet directed to invite scholars of international stature from different religions and schools of thought. It was noted the conference will prove to be a milestone for the promotion of interfaith harmony in the country.
While apprising the cabinet about his Jaranwala visit, the Prime Minister termed the protection of minorities as the topmost priority.
He categorically stated that fanning religious hatred and extremism will not be allowed at any cost in the country. He assured to award exemplary punishment to those involved in the Jaranwala incident.
On Monday, Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar visited Jaranwala to express solidarity with the victims of Christian community.
The prime minister distributed cheques worth two million rupees each amongst the affected people. He also reviewed the renovation and rehabilitation work of churches and other structures that were damaged by miscreants.
Speaking on the occasion, the prime minsiter assured that no compromise will be made on the protection of minorities as they too are equal citizens of the country. He said there is utmost clarity amongst all the state institutions that minorities are an integral part of Pakistan as per the constitution.
PM Kakar said the state of Pakistan is fully capable not only to protect its citizens, but to defeat foes of peace in the country and the region.
He said the government does not believe in majoritarianism and it will resist this fascist agenda of destabilizing the region. He said such elements are enemies of Pakistan and humanity.
The prime minister further reiterated his conviction to pursue and eliminate the enemies of peace and minority communities living in Pakistan.
