ISLAMABAD: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has withdrawn an application challenging the bail of PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz in the sugar mills reference case.
NAB submitted a petition to the Supreme Court of Pakistan and urged the court to withdraw the application challenging Maryam Nawaz’s bail in the case.
The Supreme Court dismissed the appeal after it was withdrawn by the anti-graft agency. In 2019, NAB filed an application for canceling the bail of Maryam Nawaz in the Shamim Sugar Mill case.
Special Prosecutor NAB told the court that the case against Maryam Nawaz is over after amendments in accountability laws. The prosecutor said he is withdrawing the current case due to NAB amendments.
NAB had approached the Supreme Court to cancel the bail of Maryam Nawaz in the Shamim Sugar Mills case.
The prosecutor urged the court to dispose the appeal rather than dismissing the order. You will like order, Chief Justice told the NAB prosecutor.
In December 2022, the NAB decided not to challenge the acquittal of Maryam Nawaz and Capt (retd) Safdar in the Avenfield Reference. NAB accepted the acquittal of Maryam Nawaz and Capt (retd) Safdar and declared the decision of their acquittal is final.
The NAB Rawalpindi has issued a written order for not filing appeals against the decision of acquittal of Maryam Nawaz and Capt (retd) Safdar. DG NAB Rawalpindi Farmanullah accorded approval to the acquittal decision.
The Islamabad High Court had accepted the appeal pleas of Maryam Nawaz and Capt (retd) Safdar against their conviction.
