KARACHI: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM) has accused the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) led government of Sindh of providing 50,000 jobs on fake domiciles.
MQM Senior Deputy Convenor Mustafa Kamal and party leader Farogh Naseem addressed a press conference and raise a slew of allegations against the outgoing provincial government for filling up vacancies.
Farogh Naseem said the Sindh High Court has issued a stay order and stopped the recruitment. He claimed that recruitment was being done on back dates and 106 advertisements were issued for the vacancies.
He said there are media reports about corruption in recruitment. He said the party has lodged a complaint to Chairman NAB regarding the irregularities in the recruitment. He said the recruitments were done in Grades 16, 17 and 18, while jobs were also provided within the Sindh Assembly.
MQM Senior Deputy Convenor Mustafa Kamal accused the provincial government of recruiting people after receiving hefty bribes. He said the high court has given a stay regarding the jobs. He said only a few days were left but the Sindh government was about to provide thousands of government jobs before stepping down.
The MQM leader said that jobs have been made impossible for the youth of Karachi. He said the PPP has made Sindh a personal fiefdom for 15 years where citizens have no water drink while billions of rupees are being earned through hydrants.
Mustafa Kamal further said that there is a quota in the universities of Karachi from every part of the country, but there is no quota for the students of Karachi in other universities of the country. He said they have reservations over the population count in Karachi.
Earlier this week, the Sindh High Court (SHC) stopped the Sindh government from new hiring after a petition was filed by the MQM.
The MQM approached the high court over new recruitment in more than 140 departments. The court suspended the advertisements regarding the vacancies and issued notices to the Sindh government and other respondents to appear on August 30.
The MQM said the tenure of the Sindh government was going to end on August 11, and it had started illegal hiring in several departments.
The petition said providing government jobs before the elections is tantamount to election rigging. It said the Sindh government was recruiting without fulfilling legal requirements.
“The Sindh government is awarding jobs to its favorites. This action of the Sindh government falls under the category of pre-election rigging,” the MQM said.
