PESHAWAR: Former chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak has announced the formation of a  new political party – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Parliamentarians.

The announcement was made after a meeting was held in Chamkani, Peshawar, where it was decided to form the party, dealing a severe blow the PTI led by Imran Khan.

More than 57 members have announced become part of the new party. This includes Former Chief Minister Mahmood Khan and former Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Shah Farman.

PTI’s former provincial ministers Ishtiaq Armard and Shaukat Ali are part of the new party. The lawmakers parted ways with the PTI due to the violent incidents of May 9.

Ziaullah Bangash, Iftikhar Mashwani, former MNA Yakub Shaikh, Ikram Gandapur, Pir Musawir Shah and former MNA Saleh Muhammad from Mansehra have also joined the party.

Among those who joined the new party are former MPA Arbab Waseem Hayat, Syed Ghazi Ghazan Jamal, Anwarzaib Khan, Nawabzada Farid Salahuddin and former MPA Muhibullah Khan. Other members of the party include Irfan Kundi, Ramzan Suri, Aurangzeb and Mufti Ubaid from Hazara division, Atiq Hadi and others from Kohat division.

“We strongly condemn incidents like May 9 tragedy: We all exist due to Pakistan,” Khattak said while announcing the formation of the party.

Earlier this week, the PTI terminated the basis member of senior leader Pervez Khattak after he failed to reply to a show-cause notice after disciplinary action was taken against him.

PTI Secretary General Omar Ayub Khan issued a notice that Pervez Khattak’s basic membership has been terminated with immediate effect.

The notice said Khattak did not provide a satisfactory answer within the stipulated timeframe after a show cause notice was issued regarding “contacting party members and inciting them to leave the party.”

The PTI initiated action against senior leader Pervez Khattak for allegedly encouraging members to quit the party and issue a show-cause notice.

Pervez Khattak was the provincial president of PTI in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He served as KP chief minister during the PTI tenure from 2013 to 2018.

Khattak announced his resignation from all positions of the party in the wake of May 9 incidents following the arrest of party chairman Imran Khan.
