LAHORE: Jahangir Khan Tareen, who is allegedly on a mission to unite PTI deserters, made significant headway when numerous important members of Imran Khan’s team joined forces with the sugar baron on Wednesday
Former PTI leaders Fawad Chaudhry, Amir Kiyani, Ali Zaidi, Imran Ismail, Mahmood Maulvi, Firdous Ashiq Awan, Ajmal Wazir, Nauraiz Shakoor, and Fayyazul Hasan Chohan embraced their ‘new boss’ in a group hug in Lahore.
Intriguingly, several of them left the PTI after the events of May 9 and declared a “temporary break” from politics. However, they only took a brief hiatus before publicly joining the new political camp.
With the promise of a good position in the new party that Mr. Tareen will soon launch, former Punjab minister Murad Raas, who had recently formed the “Democrats” group in alliance with another ex-minister Hashim Dogar and claimed support from nearly three dozen former lawmakers, also chose to support Mr. Tareen.
Awn Chaudhry, a member of the JKT camp, said the name of the new party would be ‘Istehkam-i-Pakistan Party (IPP)’.
Property tycoon Aleem Khan has reportedly set his sights on the president’s slot in the IPP while Mr Tareen may be called ‘Quaid’ of the new party till he gets relief from the court regarding his life-time disqualification from holding a public office.
