ALLEN, TEXAS: A gunman killed eight people and wounded seven others at an outlet mall in Allen, Texas, on Saturday. The shooting occurred at the Allen Premium Outlets mall, where witnesses reported seeing children among the victims. The shooter, who acted alone and whose motive is still unknown, was killed by a police officer who happened to be nearby.

According to local and agencies’ reports, the shooting is the latest in a string of mass killings that have occurred in the U.S. this year. According to a database maintained by The Associated Press and USA Today, there have been an average of about one mass killing per week in 2023.
Seven people, including the shooter, died at the scene, while two others died at the hospital. Three of the wounded were in critical condition, and four were stable. The victims ranged in age from 5 to 61 years old. Medical City Healthcare, which runs 16 hospitals in the area, confirmed that its trauma centers were treating eight of the wounded victims.

Collin County Judge Chris Hill expressed anger with “those that would do evil in our community, in our backyard” and praised the police and other first responders at a press conference. In a separate incident, police in the nearby city of Frisco, Texas, evacuated the Stonebriar mall after receiving reports of shots fired there. It is unclear if a shooting actually occurred at the mall.
