ISLAMABAD: The Meteorological Department has issued a warning about a new spell of rains that has entered the country. According to the department, westerly winds will enter the country from April 26, and the rains will continue from April 26 (today) to May 5.

The Met Department has predicted that from April 26 to 29, areas such as Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Peshawar, Islamabad, Kohat, and Lahore are likely to experience rain with strong winds and thundershowers. Similarly, from April 27 to May 3, Balochistan, South Punjab, Sindh, and Jamshoro are likely to experience thundershowers and hailstorms.
Furthermore, from April 30 to May 5, there is a possibility of heavy rain in various areas, including Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Jhang, Kasur and Islamabad. The department has warned that there is a risk of landslides in Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Murree due to the heavy rains.
In addition to that, due to the heavy rain, there is a risk of flooding in rivers and canals in Mansehra, Chitral, and Kashmir from May 1 to 4. The Met Department has asked all concerned agencies to remain alert and take necessary measures to avoid any loss of life and property.
Authorities have advised general public to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel during the predicted period of heavy rains and thunderstorms.
Meanwhile, Climate Minister Sherry Rehman took to Twitter saying that unstable weather systems and sporadic urban flooding could be expected from Kashmir to Karachi in the upcoming days.

“A special advisory for Balochistan and coastal areas has also been issued. The Fisherfolk community needs to be alerted to the possibility of choppy seas and extreme weather, especially off Ormara, Pasni, and Gwadar,” she tweeted.
