ISLAMABAD: Finance Minister Ishaq Dar presented the Mini Bill 2023 seeking expenses for elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as ordered by Supreme Court of Pakistan in its April 4 judgement.

Speaking in the House, Ishaq Dar blasted previous government and blamed them for almost every present economic mess.
After the fiery speech by Ishaq Dar, the bill was sent to the relevant Standing Committee of the National Assembly, after which the session was adjourned until Thursday.

Earlier on Monday, the Federal Cabinet referred the matter of providing funds for elections in Punjab to the Parliament after failing to reach a decision on the matter. The meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, was briefed by Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar.
The decision to send the matter to Parliament comes in the wake of the Supreme Court’s April 4 judgment which had given the Finance Ministry until April 10 to provide funds to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for holding elections in the two provinces.
Failure to comply with the order could result in the court issuing ‘appropriate orders’. In accordance with the SC order, the ECP is also required to submit a report on April 11 about the receipt of funds from the Finance Division.
