LAHORE: Former Chief Minister of Punjab, Parvez Elahi, has strongly criticized the coalition government for their salvo against Chief Justice, accusing Nawaz Sharif of pulling the strings from behind and wanting to repeat the history of the 90s.
In a meeting with ex-federal ministers and provincial assembly members at his residence in Lahor, he questioned the government’s demand for the resignation of the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) following the nullification of the Election Commission of Pakistan’s order to postpone Punjab elections.
He said the federal government should examine its own actions before demanding the CJP’s resignation and that the Prime Minister should resign himself. He also criticized those calling for the CJP’s resignation, stating that most of them are fugitives.
Pervez Elahi emphasized that the Supreme Court’s decision to order elections was made after deep observation of the situation and the current status of the departments, and that institutions were not too weak to provide security for a provincial election.
He further stated that Shehbaz Sharif should stop distorting the image of institutions, and urged the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) to change its unconstitutional behavior or face consequences.
