ISLAMABAD: Despite a surge in confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 to 1,579,911, Pakistan has reported no fatalities from the virus in the last 24 hours, as per the latest update from the National Institute of Health (NIH). However, at least 49 new cases have been reported across the country in the same time period, increasing the overall death toll to 30,650 as of Wednesday.
The country has conducted 3,562 tests in the past 24 hours, with a COVID-19 positivity ratio of 1.38 percent. This comes after the NIH confirmed one death from COVID-19 in Punjab on Tuesday.
According to health experts, the absence of any fatalities being reported in the last 24 hours, despite the rising number of positive cases, is an encouraging development for Pakistan. The government has been emphasizing the importance of following SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) and prioritizing vaccination to curb the spread of the virus among the general public.
It is pertinent to mention here that Pakistan has been grappling with the pandemic since early 2020 and has implemented several measures to curb its spread. Amid reports of emergence of new variants, the government is urging citizens to remain vigilant and take all necessary precautions to protect themselves and others from the virus.
