ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday issued notices to the Interior Ministry and summoned their response in a case concerning the security of former prime minister Imran Khan.

The Chief Justice of IHC, Justice Aamir Farooq, heard the application which was moved after interior minister Rana Sanaullah made a comment in an interview to PNN, saying “the country’s politics has been brought to the level where the existence of only one of the two [PTI and PML-N] is possible.”

During the course of proceedings today, Justice Aamir Farooq questioned, “Is Imran Khan not getting security as a former prime minister?” The court was informed by Khan’s lawyer that security had been withdrawn from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief.

The IHC chief justice questioned, “What are the standard operating procedures (SOPs) regarding the provision of security to someone in case of threats to their life?” He observed that the former chief justice of Pakistan, Saqib Nisar, had also withdrawn many security details and said that security can be provided if someone’s life is in danger.
“Check if those SOPs are still in the field or not,” the chief justice asked.
Advocate Faisal Farid, Imran Khan’s lawyer, remarked that the alleged threats are being made by the one under whom the police functions.
In response, the court ordered the Interior Ministry and the federation to submit a reply by April 6.
