RAWALPINDI: The head of Awami Muslim League (AML), Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, has stated that the current week would determine whether Pakistan would be governed according to the constitution or the desires of the Sharifs and Zardaris.

His comments came in the backdrop of ruling coalition announcing boycott of the Supreme Court’s proceedings where a case related to delay in elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was being heard.

Taking to Twitter, Sheikh Rashid said constitution mandated elections to be held within 90 days, but the rulers were determined to sink the country. He believed that the time for negotiations had passed and that it was now time to make a decision.

He said those who deemed the public “worthless creatures” and denied them the right to choose would regret it. “Despite the 140 cases that could be filed against the PTI chief Imran Khan, he would not be disqualified. If Imran were to be imprisoned, it would spell disaster for the 13 parties on the political front,” he added.

— Sheikh Rashid Ahmed (@ShkhRasheed) April 3, 2023

Sheikh Rashid further claimed that the IMF agreement had failed, and there were no foreign donations. Electricity, gas, and flour were becoming scarce resources, and the government’s goal was to seize power through force. He reiterated that the Supreme Court was the country’s only hope.

He said the government sought to cause conflicts between the public and institutions. He highlighted that the government had been in power for one year, and during that time, Nawaz Sharif did not return to Pakistan. Wheat prices increased by 100 per cent, petrol rose by Rs123 per litre, and ghee prices increased by Rs200 per kg.

The AML Chief urged the government to heed Mufti Taqi’s advice and help the country overcome its ongoing crisis.
