KARACHI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Vice Chairman, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, has criticized the rulers for delaying elections in the country.

Speaking at a press conference here on Sunday shortly after his arrival in the Metropolis, Qureshi stated that the Constitution of Pakistan demands that elections be held within 90 days after the dissolution of assemblies, but the government has been using every tactic possible to delay the elections.

Qureshi further added that the Supreme Court had already given a verdict on the matter of elections, and the Election Commission of Pakistan (EC) had accepted the same. He stressed that without an independent judiciary, there can be no sovereign democracy, and urged lawyers to support the Constitution and act as a barricade against any attempt to undermine it.
The PTI Vice Chairman, while referring to the newly introduced bill regarding Suo Motu power and constitution of benches, said it was impossible to become law unless and until constitutional amendment was introduced.
Qureshi also expressed his concerns about the recent actions of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) leadership, stating that they were trying to pressurize the judiciary to repeat the 1997 episode. He accused Rana Sanaullah of attempting to attack the judiciary by threatening to file a reference against three judges.

The PTI leader criticized the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) for joining hands with those who are trying to abrogate the Constitution. He pointed out that there was a time when the PPP used to take pride in making the Constitution, but now they seem to have forgotten their commitment to it.
He asked as to why the so-called flag bearers of champions were scared of going to the masses and hold elections. He further said the grandson of Bhutto had decided to attack the Constitution made by his grandfather, and Zardaris ruined it.
