ISLAMABAD: As part of the nation-wide ongoing austerity drive, Pakistan Army has decided to hold ‘limited’ Pakistan Day parade, scheduled for March 23, at the Presidency and not at Shakar Piryian Parade Ground.

According to multiple media reports, Pakistan Day is celebrated on March 23rd every year to commemorate the passage of the 1940 Lahore Resolution calling for the establishment of an independent country for the Muslims of British-ruled India., with Pakistan’s army showcasing its weaponry and military prowess.

Thousands of Pakistanis used to gather at Shakarparian ground in Islamabad every year to celebrate the day and watch the glorious display of the country’s military power and cultural diversity.
However, since the commencement of PDM-led rule in April last year, Pakistan has been witnessing massive economic crisis with the rupee depreciating to historic low, depleting foreign exchange reserve and decades-high inflation.
PM Shehbaz Sharif in February unveiled a massive austerity drive at the federal government level to slash expenditures while eyeing an ambitious plan to save Rs200 billion annually.
The Pakistan Army has decided to join the nation in its austerity policy and limit the parade event to help cut the cost as it caused huge expenses.
