ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) coalition parties in consultation with the legal experts to delay elections, local media reported on Saturday.
According to details, the PDM parties are exploring different options to find out a legal way to postpone the elections, ARY News reported citing sources.
The legal professionals are asked how the federal government can prolong the caretaker regime in the provinces.
The PDM parties are initially advised to postpone elections under Articles 232 and 158. They suggested offering more legal alternatives.
Prior to the elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Nawaz Sharif, the leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), appointed a 32-member parliamentary board.
ARY News reported that the parliamentary board will be headed by Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz Sharif will be part of the board.
The parliamentary board will include Maryam Nawaz, senior vice president of the PML-N, Ahsan Iqbal, Khawaja Asif, Rana Sanaullah, Main Javaid Lateef, Khawaja Saad Rafique, and Sardar Ayaz Sadiq.
It is important to note that the federal government gave the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Rs18 billion in preparations for the forthcoming general elections in the country.
For the upcoming general elections, the ECP asked the government for Rs57 billion. 27 billion rupees will be received from this sum during the current fiscal year.
