PESHAWAR: Unlike Governor Punjab who opted to stay away from signing the summary of dissolution of provincial assembly, Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ghulam Ali has signed the summary to dissolve provincial assembly he received just last night, after which the provincial house of representatives stands dissolved.

Earlier last night, on the directives of PTI Chairman Imran Khan, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mahmood Khan advised Governor Haji Ghulam Ali to dissolve the provincial assembly.

In his advice, the CM KP wrote “I, Mahmood Khan, chief minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, in pursuance of provisions of Article 112(1) of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, do hereby forward my advice for dissolution of KP Assembly on January 17, 2023, at 17:00 hours.”
Governor Ghulam Ali, while approving the dissolution summary of KP assembly, narrated that the Chief Minister of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had advised for the dissolution of the Provincial Assembly, vide his advice dated 17th January, 2023, received at his office on 17th January, 2023, at 2200 hours.
He wrote “I, HAJI GlIULAM ALI, Governor of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, under Clause (1) of Article 112 of the Constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan, 1973, dissolve the Provincial Assembly of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with immediate effect. Henceforth, the Provincial Cabinet also stands dissolved.”
The Governor, citing Clause (4) of Article 224-A of the Constitution, advised the incumbent Chief Minister, Mr. Mahmood Khan to continue to hold office to perform day to day affairs of the Province till the appointment of the care-taker Chief Minister.
He cited Article 224(1A) of the Constitution and directed to appoint the caretaker Chief Minister “by the Governor in consultation with the Chief Minister and the Leader of the Opposition in the outgoing Provincial Assembly”, within the stipulated period of three days as provided by Article 224-A(1), addinjg that “the Office of the Governor shall be available for consultation without any formal appointment till expiry of the aforesaid period.”
