OTTAWA: Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on Friday that Canada and the United States will argue at a meeting of North American leaders next week that settling a disagreement over policies that benefit Mexican energy corporations will encourage greater international investment in Mexico.
This needs to be recognized as a method to assist Mexico grow, Trudeau told Reuters. “Both Biden and I will be quite explicit with President Lopez Obrador about that, he said.
When asked if he expected to see progress in the Mexico City conference, Trudeau responded, “Absolutely.”
Under a North American trade agreement known as the USMCA the United States and Canada began dispute resolution negotiations with Mexico last year alleging that Mexican energy regulations were biased against foreign businesses and undermined their ability to compete.

On Monday Trudeau will fly into Mexico City for a three-day trip that will include bilateral discussions. On Monday, he will have meetings with business executives from all three nations.
Given the significant “economic volatility looming in the following months,” Trudeau said, discussions with Biden will probably center on “maximizing economic potential.”
