ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court of Pakistan on Friday reinstated CCPO Lahore Ghulam Mahmood Dogar, suspending verdict of Federal Service Tribunal (FST), Islamabad of upholding his removal from post by the federal government.
With the reinstatement of CCPO Lahore Ghulam Mahmood Dogar, the JIT which was formed to investigate into assassination attempt on life of Chairman PTI Imran Khan has again become active.

The Lahore police chief was suspended on Nov 5 on charges of failing to protect Punjab Governor House following attack on Imran Khan in Wazirabad. He has remained at the centre of the feud between the federal and Punjab governments.
The CCPO challenged his suspension in the Lahore High Court but it declared his petition inadmissible due to limitations of its jurisdiction. He later moved the Federal Services Tribunal (FST) where a single-bench reinstated him on Nov 10.
It may be recalled that a two-member bench of the Federal Service Tribunal (FST), Islamabad had suspended an earlier decision of reinstating Lahore Capital City Police Officer Ghulam Mahmood Dogar and ordered to constitute a larger bench to hear the case.
The FST had suspended the operation of the order passed by the learned bench-III of the tribunal on Nov 10 regarding the suspension of Additional IGP Ghulam Mahmood Dogar. The notification of suspension of Mr Dogar issued by the Establishment Division on Nov 5 has been upheld, creating a controversy over the legal status of the JIT Mr Dogar is heading to probe the Wazirabad shooting incident.
During the course of hearing today, the honorable court asked as to how a bench of the services tribunal suspend orders of another bench of the same tribunal. Justice Mazahir Akbar Naqvi asked as to why the Lahore High Court refused to hear the constitutional petition (of CCPO Lahore) and declared it non-maintainable.

Lawyer representing CCPO Lahore Ghulam Mahmood Dogar told the SC that the provincial government (of Punjab) didn’t want to release his client. On the request of Dogar, the SC issued notice to the federal government, and adjourned the hearing until further notice.
