ISLAMABAD: President Arif Alvi is reported to have agreed to act as per the advise of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, regarding the appointment of new Army Chief in the country.

The reports about President showing his consent to sign PM’s advice for appointing new Army Chief surfaced following an important meeting with Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, and later series of meetings between federal ministers and PM Shehbaz Sharif.

Media reports claimed that neither PTI as a party nor President would create any hurdle in the way of appointment of new Army Chief.
It has also been reported that during his meeting with Ishaq Dar, President Arif Alvi made clear that he never intervened in the business of executive, nor did he intend to do so in future. He was further quoted as having said that there should be no deadlock on legal and constitutional issues.

He also reportedly said that the appointment of Army Chief was PM’s prerogative, and he would simply sign the summary whenever sent to him.
It may be added here that as November 29 approaches, the summary for the discharge of incumbent army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa is yet to be issued by the Ministry of Defense (MoD) under Rule 12 of the Pakistan Army Act 1954.
