ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday ordered to release PTI leader Zahid Akbar, who was arrested almost a week back from his residence in the federal capital on charges of planning to sabotage the metro bus station. IHC Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani read out the judgement which was reserved minutes ago.

It may be recalled that PTI leader Zahid Akbar, also a member of Pakistan Baitul Mal, was arrested during a crackdown launched by Islamabad police in order to thwart Imran Khan’s long march. A heavy contingent of police raided the residence of PTI leader Sardar Zahid Akbar last week, and took him into custody. Later, he was moved to the police station Industrial Zone.
Just three days back, Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday summoned the chief commissioner over a petition filed against establishment of the sub-jail in Islamabad. Crime Intelligence Agency (CIA) building of the capital police had been declared sub-jail or judicial lock-up to keep people who might be arrested during the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) long march.

Islamabad Police detained Zahid Akbar, an activist of PTI in the sub-jail. His son challenged the said notification before IHC.
After hearing arguments today, and coming to know that no arson attack or vandalism took place in Islamabad, Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani declared Zahid Akbar’s arrest as illegal and ordered his release.
