ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah on Wednesday warned the Punjab and KP government to fulfil their constitutional duty, otherwise there would be consequences.
Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, the interior minister said that it was the constitutional duty of provincial governments to protect the rights of the people.
“I strongly request the provincial governments to open the national highways immediately,” said Sanaullah. He also apologized to the people affected by the march on behalf of the federal government.
The minister also said that only a few thousand people are protesting in the two provinces and urged the police to keep legal options open.
Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah has said that there were not more than 150 PTI workers protesting on the roads, adding that often times it was close to 50.
He also called on the chief justices of the high courts to take notice of the protests, saying that the people causing trouble for citizens would later approach the court for relief.
He further said that some sort of evidence needed for registering FIR.
“There must be some sort of evidence for the first information report (FIR) to be registered.” He said
He reacted angrily to PTI leader Imran Khan’s demand that the FIR of the attack on his life be filed in accordance with his wishes.
The minister claimed that using that defense, someone could even file a complaint against the chief justice.
“There must be some sort of evidence […] to convince the police.”
Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah has said that only one suspect had been taken into custody for the assassination attempt on PTI chief Imran Khan.
“I say this again, Naveed is the only suspect. There is no other suspect.”
He went on to say that the suspect had the same motivations as those behind the attack on Ahsan Iqbal and ink attack on Khawaja Asif.
He added that the suspect was “self-motivated” and was not a part of any political or religious party. “All the people he was linked to and in contact with are being investigated.”
