US condemns shooting of Ex-PM Imran Khan, Secretary Blinken says violence has no place in politics

WASHINGTON: The United States strongly condemns the shooting of former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan and others at a political rally.

In a statement released earlier today, the State Department said “we wish Imran Khan and all others who were injured a quick and thorough recovery, and we offer our condolences to the family of the individual who was killed.”

The statement further said “violence has no place in politics, and we call on all parties to refrain from violence, harassment, and intimidation. The United States is deeply committed to a democratic and peaceful Pakistan, and we stand with the Pakistani people.”

The US Secretary of state also condemned the assassination attempt on Imran Khan.

The statement came following the shooting incident in which PTI Chairman Imran Khan and several other party leaders were injured. One PTI worker lost life in the incident.

The incident drew widespread condemnation as well as protest at home and abroad. The US, Saudi Arabia and other nations condemned the incident in strongest possible terms.
