RAWALPINDI: The senior central leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and former federal minister Asad Umar has said that had 200 people taken out to the streets for long march, the government would not have turned Islamabad into a graveyard of containers.
Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Asad Umar expressed gratitude over massive response by the people of Pakistan for PTI’s Long March and said that it was a change of minds and a New Pakistan, adding that the masses in the country were no longer ready to accept decisions taken by ‘others’. Calling it a revolution in minds, he said the nation has awakened and could not more be misled by anyone.
Responding to PMNL Leader Mian Nawaz Sharif’s tweet that people hadn’t responded well to the Long March, Asad Umar said that people had the real power to decide who would form the government in Pakistan, adding “Mian Sahib, this was not the GT Road you had left behind.” He further said that no one could make decisions about Pakistan while sitting in London and America.
He said the current democratic system in the country was only on paper, and challenged Shehbaz Sharif come out in the public without security in Punjab.
He said as the Long March proceeds, “we see cities are left behind but the ocean of the masses do not end.” He said there was no rooftop, no street where women, children, men and youth couldn’t be seen. The rulers should be ashamed of themselves, he added.
Asad Umar said everyone believed that Imran Khan could get the country out of present crisis and the day he reached Islamabad, would be welcomed by the ocean of the people.
Asad Umar said Pakistan Army is brave and made immense sacrifices. He said the strength of the army is the love of the nation. He categorically denied any (behind the scene) negotiations.
