Imran asks CJP to investigate Swati’s torture, protect fundamental rights

Imran Khan, the head of the PTI, urged Pakistan’s Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial to protect people’s fundamental rights and take action against the alleged custodial torture of PTI leaders, particularly Senator Azam Swati.

“Chief justice sahib, it is your job to protect fundamental rights. The nation is looking towards you. Action is taken against custodial torture across the world …Who will protect our fundamental rights if not you chief justice sahib?” he said.

He continued: “Today, chief justice, I am asking you to take action and listen to Azam Swati’s appeal. Show that we are a society of humans and not animals. There is justice in human society … It is our right that we are given justice.”

‘We are not sheep’, says Imran

Imran Khan, while berating the establishment, said it was highly regrettable the way a 75-year-old senator was picked up and tortured.

“Free men rule the world,” he told his supporters at Lahore’s Shahdara.

The PTI leader reiterated the alleged torture inflicted upon party leaders Shahbaz Gill and Azam Swati. “First they tortured Shahbaz Gill and then the 75-year-old senator,” he said.

“I want to convey a message that we are humans and not sheep,” said Khan.

Without naming any specific individual, Imran said “don’t treat us like animals” while calling out the elevation of the alleged corrupt rulers to power.

Imran, without naming anyone in particular but making it obvious, said “Don’t treat us like animals. First, you call them robbers and then impose them on us, and treat us as if we are sheep.”

“You first tell us the Nawaz Sharif was a robber and now he is clean. Previously Zardari was ‘Mister 10 per cent’ in the world and but now since ‘we have decided, you also accept him’.”

He exclaimed again “we are not sheep” and that “you are standing with them today”.

This came after Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) had already prohibited all news media channels from live coverage of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) long march.

Earlier in the day, Imran Khan said ‘no one’ could stop the long march to Islamabad. In a short interview with a private TV channel, he said that the people would have to wait for him to reach Islamabad before he revealed his next decision. Imran reiterated his demand for “immediate fair elections” adding that, “no one could prevent that”.
