ISLAMABAD: The police of federal capital on Saturday registered a case under terrorism clauses against PTI leadership for staging protest against Election Commission verdict yesterday.
The PTI leadership, it may be recalled, had given a protest call following ECP verdict which disqualified party chairman Imran Khan for the present term.
Workers and supporters hit the streets, burnt tyres and blocked traffic at over 80 places across Pakistan. Some thronged to the Faizabad Interchange to disconnect the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
Reacting on the political turmoil, Islamabad Police registered a case under terrorism clauses in the I-9 Police Station against PTI leaders Senator Faisal Javed, Amir Kayani, Wamiq Qayyum Abbasi, Raja Rashid and others.
Earlier, Member of the National Assembly (MNA) of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Saleh Muhammad and his gunmen were also booked in a terrorism case during a protest outside the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) office in Islamabad yesterday.
The First Information Report (FIR) states that the accused attempted to disturb law and order situation in an organised way and the lawmaker’s gunmen resorted to firing at police officials to murder them.
It stated that the PTI MNA entered the Red Zone along with his gunmen. The police officials also seized two SMGs and 28 rounds, it added.
