ISLAMABAD: Former Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan said Saturday that he would announce the date of long march toward Islamabad next Thursday or Friday.
Addressing a press conference alongside PTI Senator Azam Swati, the former prime minister said he would announce the date for his ‘Haqeeqi Azadi March (long march) next Thursday or Friday and warned the government against taking steps to stop the march.
The government approached the Supreme Court earlier to stop the PTI’s long march. However, the apex court rejected the request to issue an interim order for stopping the PTI’s planned long march — giving a boost to the Khan-led party.
Before it approached the top court, the government issued repeated warnings to the PTI chief, with a top official saying that the authorities will multiply their May 25 policy by 10 if Khan announces another long march.
In response to a question about backdoor talks,
Imran Khan wasn’t optimistic about any meaningful result from backdoor talks. “Political parties always hold backdoor channels talks but I don’t think these ongoing talks will have any meaning outcome,” he said.
He threatened that if the authorities tried to stop his “Azadi March,” it would become chaos. “I would not permit the government to torture or persecute his party leaders and employees like the last time.” He added.
The former prime minister also said that the current authorities had lost recent by-elections. Therefore, he said, “They would not announce early elections.”
