ISLAMABAD: The federal government has approved the relaxation in the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) rules for the import of Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) to manage the looming gas crisis in winter, a local news channel reported on Thursday.
The coalition government has approved the relaxation of the PPRA rules for the import of LPG to ensure the supply of gas in the winter season. The approval from the federal cabinet will be taken through circulation summary, ARY News reported.
The import of spot LPG cargoes will be subject to the PPRA relaxation regulations. The regulations governing the import of spot cargo for Sui Southern LPG Limited will be relaxed.
According to the sources, the administration has also proposed importing 100,000 metric tons of LPG over the following five months, and from November 2022 to March 2023, there are plans to import 20,000 tons of LPG each month.
Earlier, The Minister of State for Petroleum Musadik Malik warned of severe gas load-shedding in winter despite arranging additional 200 million cubic feet per day (MMCFD) LNG for the month of January and February next year.
Musadik Malik said that Pakistan would have ten LNG cargoes in January, while in February nine of them would be available for local consumption.
Gas load-shedding will be unavoidable, according to Malik, who briefed the Senate Standing Committee on Petroleum during a meeting presided over by Senator Mohammad Abdul Qadir. “Despite the availability of an extra LNG cargo during the forthcoming high winter season,” Malik said.
