KARACHI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) has challenged the victory of Hakeem Baloch of Pakistan People’s Party from NA-237 Malir, Karachi. Election Commission, Sindh Government and PPP’s winning candidate Hakeem Baloch have been made parties in the petition.
PTI Sindh President Ali Zaidi has filed a petition in the Sindh High Court through Dr. Shahab Imam Advocate challenging the election result in NA-237 Malir.
In its petition, PTI took the ground that worst rigging took place in the constituency as PPP workers resorted to hooliganism and cast fake votes.
PTI alleged that they had lodged complaints about rigging and massive irregularities with the Election Commission, adding that the Court should order a transparent investigation into their complaints and the same be redressed.
It may be added here that Abdul Hakeem Baloch, who was fielded as joint candidate of 13 parties Pakistan Democratic Movement, secured 32,567 votes while PTI chief Imran Khan could begged 22,493 votes in NA-237.
It is also pertinent to mention here that the provincial ECP had taken notice of the reported rigging at NA-237’s polling station 108. The incident came to light when a video, reportedly of Presiding Officer Mazhar Bhatti emerged and got viral on social media in which he can be watched as saying that some unidentified men barged into the polling station at lunch time, snatched ballot papers from the staff, and started stamping them.
