ISLAMABAD: The federal government has clarified that it has not increased the power tariff for the consumers but only allowed quarterly adjustments.
The quarterly adjustments of Rs3.644/unit are for the quarter (April to June) of 2021-2022 which will not increase the bills as the government’s notified Schedule of Tariff (SoT) will be maintained during the first quarter of 2022-23.
According to the regulator’s directives, state-run power distribution companies would nevertheless add Rs0.19/unit to their power bills for October in order to cover fuel charge adjustments (FCA) for the month of August. This change only applies for one month.
In addition, the fuel cost adjustment (FCA) mechanism has cut the power pricing for October by Rs4.15 per unit compared to September.
The government had not raised the power tariff, contrary to what had been reported a day earlier, according to the Ministry of Energy. However, the FCA was informed about the quarterly modifications.
According to the secretary of the Power Division, the government decided not to raise the power tariff in light of the rising cost of electricity in the nation and would instead maintain the quarterly adjustment that was already reflected in September’s electricity bills.
