LAHORE: A privilege committee of the Punjab Assembly on Monday ordered outspoken PMLN leader Ata Tarar to appear in person, failing which he would be arrested.
The committee, which met here with Chaudhry Ali Akhtar in the chair, asked Ata Tarar to appear in the next meeting, or else, police would be ordered to arrest and produce him.
Senior PTI leaders including Dr. Yasmin Rashid and senior MPA Sadia Sohail Rana, had lodged a complaint with the committee for making an objectionable gesture during a provincial assembly session in June this year.
Tarar was condemned by several segments of the civil society as well as some political elements for making that obscene gesture, but he showed no regret. His video had gone rival and made rounds and rounds on the internet with social media users blasting his action.
Ata Tarar was then summoned by the privilege committee of the Punjab Assembly sometime back but he refused to pay any heed to such orders.
It may be recalled here that on August 13, Punjab Police had conducted a raid at the residence of Ata Tarar but he wasn’t there, after which Tarar approached Islamabad High Court (IHC) to get a pre-arrest bail. He had subsequently been granted bail by the IHC which also restrained police from arresting him.
