ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman and the former Prime Minister Imran Khan has said the warning he gave to an Islamabad Court judge doesn’t fall under “terrorism” asking the case to be dismissed.
In the written response he provided to the joint investigation team (JIT) established to look into his case through his attorney, the PTI chairman demanded that his prosecution be dismissed.
“I was the prime minister of this country and a party chairman to the biggest party in the country, the government tortured [my aide] Shahbaz Gill due to political opposition, the report filed in the Islamabad High Court proved the torture of Shahbaz Gill,” Khan told the JIT.
According to the PTI leader, what he stated in the speech cannot be classified as terrorism because he did not damage anyone or engage in any unlawful activity.
The former prime minister was charged with violating the Anti-Terrorism Act for threatening a sessions judge and senior Islamabad Police personnel during a demonstration.
The case was brought before the Islamabad High Court (IHC), where Khan was able to obtain a transit bail till August 25 but was instructed to contact the ATC because it included terrorism.
At a gathering in Islamabad’s F-9 park, Khan vowed to bring legal action against the city’s inspector general, deputy inspector general, and female magistrate for “torturing” Gill.
“We will not spare the IG and DIG,” he said while addressing the gathering.
The PTI chairman was ordered by a judge to participate in the case’s inquiry despite the fact that he had provided a written response.
Khan was told to show up today at 3pm at the Margalla Police Station to appear before the JIT, but he did not.
