ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) data revealed that Pakistan’s trade deficit widened by 28.89 per cent on a month-on-month basis to $3.53 billion in August 2022 when compared to $2.739 billion in July 2022.
According to the Bureau’s monthly figures, the country’s trade deficit decreased by 17.13% over the first two months of the current fiscal year (July–August) and was $6.269 billion as opposed to $7.565 billion during the same period the previous fiscal year. When compared to July-August of the previous fiscal year, when exports were $4.587 billion, they climbed by 3.75 percent to $4.759 billion.
In the first two months of the current fiscal year, imports decreased by 9.25% to $11.02 billion from $12.152 billion in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year. When compared to the $2.254 billion in July 2022, the exports were up 11.07% to $2.504 billion in August 2022. In August 2022, imports totaled $6.034 billion, up 20.84 percent from $4.993 billion in July 2022.
From $4.330 billion in August 2021 to $3.530 billion in August 2022, the trade deficit decreased by 18.49% on a yearly basis. As of August 2022, imports were $6.034 billion, down 8.26% year over year from $6.577 billion in August 2021. In August 2022, exports were $2.504 billion, up 11.44 percent year over year from $2.247 billion in August 2021.
