KARACHI: The Anti-Theft Cell of Karachi Water Board conducted a grand operation near Muhammadi Piala Hotel of Godhra Society in Ayub Goth area of Site Super Highway.
According to details, the action was taken by the KWSB in the first phase of operation in the morning in which not many connections were found and the work was stopped. Seeing the teams, the people, the water thieves fled and later, a large number of locals protested and started removing illegal underground water connections.
After the locals started the operation on their own, the anti-theft cell resumed the operation in which several more illegal connections were found from where water thieves used to steal millions of gallons of water daily and sell it at high prices.
According to sources, Abdul Wahid alias Waheed son of Abdul Wahab, Noor Wahid son of Abdul Wahab, Fazal Wahid son of Abdul Wahab, Aziz Khan son of Talemand Khan, Shamshir son of Faiz Muhammad Khan, Hussain Badshah son of Badshah Khan and Habib Khan son of Abdul Wahab are the people who are doing business of selling water by stealing in the area.
It is to be noted that the managing officers and employees of the local line of the Water Board had informed the water thief mafia even before the operation of the anti-theft cell which had removed the goods visible in front of the ground the night before. The operation was launched on Thursday morning.
They said water thieves steal the water of the people and the residents of the area are compelled to buy the water by spending millions of rupees daily. They also alleged that personnel of Site police is helping the water thieves and taking their share.
