KARACHI: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Sharjeel Memon was inducted into the Sindh cabinet on Friday as the provincial information minister.
Sharjeel Memon has been given the portfolio of information minister and has replaced Saeed Ghani. Sharjeel was sworn in by acting Sindh Governor Agha Siraj Durrani in the presence of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and other cabinet members.
“The governor Sindh has been pleased to appoint the following member (Sharjeel Inam Memon) of the provincial assembly, Sindh as provincial minister on the advice of the chief minister with immediate effect,” read the notification.
Saeed Ghani has the portfolios of information minister and labour minister. Meanwhile, the Sindh chief minister has de-notified Awais Qadir Shah as transport minister.
Memon has been facing multiple corruption cases and was arrested during the last PPP government in a Rs5.7 billion corruption and assets beyond means case. He is currently out on bail.
The Sindh cabinet currently consists of 50 members including ministers, advisors and special assistants working in various departments, and with the induction of Memon, the size of the provincial cabinet has reached 51.
