PESHWAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate has won the by-polls in NA-33 Hangu constituency after a wide margin.
According to unofficial and unconfirmed results from all the polling stations in NA-33 Hangu, PTI candidate Nadeem Khan secured 21,583 votes, while JUI-F’s Mufi Ubaidullah remained second with 17,153 vores.
In 2018 general elections, PTI won the seat with a lead of 800 votes. The polling for the NA-33 Hangu constituency started at 8 am concluded at 5 pm without any interval with around 4,500 policemen deployed to avert any untoward incident.
The seat fell vacated following the death of PTI MNA Khayal Zaman. Over 0.314 million people are exercised their right to vote and five candidates contested the by-election.
The candidates were Saeed Umar of Awami National Party (ANP), Mufti Ubaidullah of JUI-F, Nadeem Khan of PTI and Atiq Ahmed and Muhammad Saeed, who are running as independent candidates.
The ECP had established 210 polling stations were established for the by-polls, including 64 polling stations for men and 55 for women. Around 110 polling stations were declared sensitive while 77 were declared highly sensitive.
Adequate security arrangements were made around these stations, he said. A control room was set up at the office of the Provincial Election Commissioner Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to monitor the by-election.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja had warned that no interference in the polling process would be tolerated and strict action would be taken against the violators.
