ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb on Friday denied reports that the incumbent government had closed the Ehsaas programme and the panagah shelters, terming the reports ‘baselesss’.
“Lies are being spread by those who are accustomed to lying from the prime minister’s chair, the media is also requested to refrain from giving space to such baseless reports,” the former information minister stated.
According to Marriyum, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif – in his first address to the National Assembly after being elected – had made it clear that public service projects would continue.
She added that the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) will be further expanded as the premier has decided to make it a source of education for children. “No program has been stopped, every project for the welfare of the people will be improved”, she added.
The spokeswoman further said that the health card would continue to function and efforts were being made to improve upon its service.
“Today there is an elected prime minister in the country who cares about the people, who is generous to the people and has a passion to serve them,” she said, adding that the premier would not be one to “use public and national security issues for personal politics”.
On Thursday, PM Shehbaz chaired a high-level meeting to discuss the country’s current economic situation wherein he directed his economic team to formulate an economic reform strategy on an emergency basis.
The premier stated that the government was taking urgent measures to achieve economic stability. He directed his economic team to take critical measures for the economic uplift of the public, including countering inflation.
