ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court has remarked in the case of Deputy Speaker Ruling’s suo motu notice that the court will decide the merits of the proceedings of Parliament and the court will review the privileges.
According to details, the hearing of the case is going on in the Supreme Court today. Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan remarked that PTI is the largest party in the National Assembly.
During the hearing, Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan asked whether it was better for small parties to form a government with an unnatural alliance. Lawyer Ali Zafar said that the court does not need to pay attention to this.
The arguments of the President’s lawyer Ali Zafar were completed. Imtiaz Siddiqui, counsel for the prime minister, argued that the court had in the past avoided interfering in the assembly proceedings. Members were tortured in the Fazlullah case.
The prime minister’s lawyer said the court did not interfere in the parliamentary proceedings even on the violence. The proceedings of the House are beyond the jurisdiction of the judiciary. The court asked the parliament to clean up its own mess. The court said the opposition said Rolling could have come on March 28.
Lawyer Imtiaz Siddiqui said that the opposition had not objected to the presidency of the Deputy Speaker. Qasim Suri decided what he thought was best. He is not answerable to the court.
Imtiaz Siddiqui said that a no-confidence motion is purely a parliamentary action. The Supreme Court remarked that this is the law and the court will decide the merits of parliamentary proceedings. How much privilege the action has, needs to be reviewed, the court remarked.
