ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan reiterated that a conspiracy was hatched to oust him from power and there was foreign interferance in Pakistan’s politics.
The prime minister made the remarks after surviving the opposition’s attempt to oust him from power after a no-confidence motion against him was rejected by the National Assembly deputy speaker.
Addressing a meeting of the Pakistan Tehreek Insaf (PTI) leaders, the prime minister blamed United States official Donald Lu for being involved in the ‘foreign conspiracy’ to topple his government.
Imran Khan claimed that Donald Lu warned the Pakistani ambassafor to the US, Asad Majeed, that there would be implications if he survived the no-confidence vote in the National Assembly.
Imran Khan openly held the US responsible for the “foreign conspiracy” to overthrow his government. “Ok I’m taking the name of US, the conspiracy has been hatched with the help of America to remove me,” he said, adding that the no-confidence motion against him was a “foreign conspiracy and expressed gratitude it had failed.
Donald Lu is a United States diplomat serving as Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs at the US State Department since 2021, has served in India and Pakistan as a Political Officer, and also served as Special Assistant to the Ambassador in New Delhi, India.
It was earlier revealed that then Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States (US), Asad Majeed Khan, has sent the “threatening” letter to Prime Minister Imran Khan, who claimed that foreign conspiracy was behind in toppling of his government.
The diplomatic cable was received in Islamabad on March 7, a day before the opposition requestioned the National Assembly for a vote of no-confidence against the Prime Minister.
The US ambassador sent the letter after meeting Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs, Donald Lu. The letter is reportedly classified under the Official Secrets Act, 1923.
